I got to see Niekro knuckleball up close and personal today today. A Lance Niekro knuckleball, that is.
During the off season the Braves signed Lance Niekro, a 30-year-old former infielder in the Giants and Astros organizations, to a minor league contract. He’s the son of Joe and nephew of Phil.
He was released by the Astros after Spring Training last year, got out of professional ball, but decided to give it another chance, trying out the knuckleball his dad taught him to throw.
He threw a bullpen session today, and it was a kick to be able to photograph it.
