Just days after leading his team to the 2012 South Atlantic League championship, Asheville Tourists manager Joe Mikulik has been fired by the parent organization, the Colorado Rockies.
Some reports are indicating that Mikulik was let go just three days after winning the title, but the news was put under wraps until last Thursday when it was reported on an Asheville radio show.
“The news was reported by the Asheville radio station 1310 Big Wise during the local sports talk show ‘The Wise Guys,'” reports Hendersonville Times-News sports editor Dean Hensley.
Tourists manager for 13 years, Mikulik was named the SAL Manager of the Year for a fourth time after this season. He earned the manager of the year award also in 2001, 2007 and 2008, Hensley reported.
