New York Yankees Manager Joe Girardi has made it clear that former Charleston RiverDogs first baseman Greg Bird is the Yanks’ new first baseman for 2017. I photographed Bird during the 2013 season when he hit 20 home runs for the RiverDogs, including more in Greenville than any Greenville player that season. Bird has been in the Yanks’ Minor League system since 2011.

Johnson is the No. 15 prospect for the Boston Red Sox, according to Baseball America. (Tom Priddy/Four Seam Images)

There is only one member of the 2013 Greenville Drive represented in the 2013 Topps Heritage Minor League card set, released yesterday. Thank goodness at least they used my photo . . .

Braves catching prospect Christian Bethancourt has been called up to Atlanta for September. It doesn’t seem like very long ago that he was in Greenville (above) catching Julio Teheran, who is now in the Atlanta rotation.
